25lbs - Day 1

Okay, so I've decided to change my eating habits and start working out. I guess, I'm tired of the tons of fun that my kids have with my belly. I need a little more energy; I little more sexiness; you know the stuff that makes it fun!

Just cuz I'm getting older, no need to let myself go...right!

So, here's the breakdown for Day 1.

1. Woke up late and had to gather my gym bag. Drank V8 berry blend for breakfast.
2. I passed up lunch in favor of working out. I ran on the bike for 30 minutes, not a bad start!
3. I didn't have time to eat my tv dinner lunch, so I had a nectarine.
4. Dang, my stomach was growling big time. My co-workers probably thought I had serious gas.
5. Okay, it's time to go home and I'm starving...
6. So, once I hit home I eat two leftover chicken drumsticks, carrots, drink more V8, and that's pretty much it. Family tried to entice me with cookies...nope, not gonna do it.
7. Did push ups, sit ups, and jumping jacks...man that's a long Day 1.

Let's see what tomorrow has in store for me

Damn, It's Been A Minute

So, yeah it's truly been a while since I stopped by this place, but I'm back.

Gotta let things out and see what's really going on. If you're here, then take a minute and check out the old stuff, but the new stuff is definitely on it's way.

I'm back like all 80's nostalgia.

Where did all the love go!

Take a look at my beautiful city!
The Pistons are kicking butts and taking names!

The Red Wings are naming butts to kick!

Even the Tigers…that’s right, the Detroit Tigers are winning!

Okay, I guess all good things must come to an end right!
Just two months ago Detroit was the city with All Eyes on Us! And just when my city appeared to be ready to turn that corner, reality hit! And boy did it hit hard! The most recent and disturbing incident has to be the 911 call gone awry, or shall I say just plain ignored! Ignorance my folks! What else can I say! I guess by definition ignorance is the wrong word, because that 911 Operator knew better than to ignore the call of a five year old boy calling to get help for his mother! Unfortunately, the mother didn’t make it and a large portion of the blame goes to the 911 Operator, who told the boy to quit playing on the phone, when all he was attempting to do was be a good son to an ailing mom! There are procedures that the operator clearly failed to follow and as a result a son is now without his mom! I could understand if the operator just made a judgement call initially, but the boy called twice! Where in the world was this woman’s head at!
Sad to say that this is not the first incident in which Detroit’s 911 representatives have been called into question! Personally, I don’t care to retell them because every mishap done on behalf of a Detroit Civil Servant is replayed through the media as if it was the hottest song on the radio!

On Tuesday night a local artist was shot and killed! The artist was Proof, Eminem’s right hand man! In the movie 8-Mile he is portrayed by Mikal Phifer!

I love my city but damn yall! If yall can decide to behave for a stupid ass football game, for motherfuckers that don’t even live here, where is the love for your fellow Detroiter? Where is the love for you neighbor, brother, sister…Christian, Muslim or Jew!

I guess I’ll be glad when the Super Bowl comes back, because that means I can feel at peace.

Sad part about that is....I might be leaving my beautifully confused city as well! I guess until then I'll find my solace in sports!!

Damn shame!

Black every day

It's the end of February, which means the end of Black History Month until 2007. For some this month was filled with something new about Blacks that some blacks and/or other races may not have known. For others, it may seem like a tired carousel on the ever revolving race issues highlighted in the Land of the Free! Whatever your education, pessimist or optimist, there's no denying that Blacks are having a more profound effect on everyday life throughout the world and not just in America, nor simply for the month of February. So, as we say good bye to the shortest month on the calendar, take a moment to think about how you'll take notice of other cultures successes, triumphs or civil and humanitarian efforts for the remaining ten months of 2006!

As for me it's back to being black without all of the notoriety that comes with the month of February!

until next time...stay educated

Selfish or Selfless

During these cold Detroit days, I have nothing but sympathy for those that participate and lose in these Winter Olympics! However, on Sunday The American Ice Skating Team stirred a lil controversy among teammates. Chad Hedrick accused Shani Davis of being a selfish teammate for not participating in the team relay event. Instead Shani Davis, choose to bypass the relay to focus on his individual event so he could win gold. Although, when one would initially hear this story the selfish accusations would start to fly direct at Mr. Davis being just that, a selfish person!

However, when taking a closer look at the situation I think I would have made the same decision. First and foremost, Mr. Davis was selected to the Olympics based on his individual performance, not the teammate based relay event! Although his speed would have definitely been a huge help for team America winning a gold, it would have been a hindrance in helping Mr. Davis reach his goals of winning a gold in the event in which, he was eventually named the Gold Medal winner!!

Also, when you look at the individual who brought the controversy to light, Chad Hedrick, who had already won his individual event medals, 4 to be exact, does not have a friendly relationship with Mr. Davis at all! Another one of the people that brought about the selfish controversy was Bob Costas of NBC, whose only competition remains to be Katie Couric, which apparently he’s still losing!! For Mr. Costas to call the actions of a man who valued being the first African American man to win a Gold Medal at the Winter Olympics selfish, then I think Mr. Costas needs to look at the trail that Mr. Davis has just blazed for another aspiring African American Winter Olympian!
until next time...

Told yall I wasn’t dead!

Okay, so you boy is back on! Yeah, I have a new job and hopefully I’ll be dropping some posts on a more frequent basis! It took me two weeks after my last day of work to start another position! Anyway, holla at ya boy and ya boy will holla back!

Super Detroit 4 The Moment

So, by now everyone is tired of hearing about Jerome Bettis and how this would be the perfect ending to his football career! I know I get tired of seeing him on the damn TV! Trust me, I aint hating, but I know there has to be another story line in there somewhere, right!!!?? It just has to be! Jerome “The Bus” Bettis has seemingly done every thing right or politically correct in his career so there’s no hating on him at all. Much props to one of the players in the Big Game that’s representing Detroit.

Detroit has been transformed into a place that I can barely recognize! I guess much like Jacksonville was changed over last year for the Big Game! There are parties all over town and out of town! Usher is having a party and charging $300 to get in! WTF! Is this his way of saying all unimportant people stay the fuck out! Not that I would pay that much to attend any party, unless Tupac finally came back and he gave me a discount!

So, if you look at ESPN and hear all the wonderful things that are being said about my hometown, you would have to question yourself about all the sudden love! I guess the Disney and NFL folks have their marketing teams on over drive! However, just wait until everything goes back to normal! I looked out of my office window (ex-office) and could see TV crews from everywhere! Traffic was a nightmare, so I can only imagine how out-of-towners felt! So, just wait until all the bright lights and camera’s are off and see what your local writer has to say about ABC/Disney’s/ NFL’s favorite city of the week!

As for myself, I’ll still be here writing about the typical bullshyt, good and bad that goes on in the real Detroit!

I aint dead

OKAY, I'VE BEEN MISSING IN ACTION EVERY SINCE I FOUND OUT THAT I HAVE BECOME ONE OF THE "WORKFORCE REDUCTION" CASUALTIES!

WHEN MY MIND IS A LITTLE MORE STABLE I SHALL AGAIN, BORE THE BLOG WORLD WITH MY BRILLIANT WIT, MY ATTENTION TO NOTHING AND MY LOVE FOR SLACKING!!!

OKAY, DID I SAY THAT LAST ONE OUT LOUD. NOW I KNOW WHY I'M UNEMPLOYED!

The American Economy...ya gotta love it

Until I'm employed, or uncharacteristically motivated....

Things that are bound to make my “?? Things that I did in ’06 list”

Well it’s only 12 days into the New Year, and I’ve already have situations that will probably make my year end list.

Dumbest thing I did in ‘06
I locked my keys in my car with the engine running and it took me two hours to get them out! As soon as I opened the door, the damn AAA insurance people came! Why would it take 90 minutes to come and unlock a car and I was in the city! I wasn't stranded on a road in the middle of nowhere! Naturally, I looked at him and kept going!

Things that I did in ‘05 that I said I wouldn’t do in ’06, that I've done in '06!
Okay, so I performed an act, ya know just for old time sakes…so what if it was only 9 days into the New Year. Damn it, I can’t quit quitting!
(don’t even ask what it was)

Spend less!
I decided that I would start bringing my lunch to work, well so far so good, but it’s day 4 of Campbell’s Chunky Soup and I’m all out of my Ritz Crackers. Thank God tomorrow is Friday! Friday will be “free eat day”, that way it fits in with Casual Friday!

Be more active!
I was playing ball once a week, now I play on two additional days. However, there's a cost to play, so I’m still trying to figure that one out while balancing the “Spend Less” goal!

All in all the first 12 days of ’06 hasn’t been that bad! Okay, so the twelfth isn’t over yet, but I’m going to remain optimistic.

Change, ya gotta love it!

You tell me!!

Ghetto or Resourceful

Growing up in my neighborhood families did a lot of things the best way they could. Lack of money was probably the one constant in my community, buying the latest product was definitely out of the question if you desired to keep that roof over your family’s head. However we all grew up and swore to never have to do those same things again, because we were embarrassed! Some of those moments or actions have been given a label and commonly referred to as being “Ghetto”, however I have to pose the question to you all; “Was it Ghetto or Resourceful?”

01. Making a wish sandwich!
02. Using pliers to turn the TV!
03. Having a screwdriver or any other tool other than keys to start up your car!
04. Using a face cloth in the bathtub as a plug!
05. Re-using pickle, mayonnaise, or mason jars as drinking containers!
06. Using cooking grease after it’s been used again!
07. Keeping the old TV and using it as a TV stand!
08. Using tape to fix any and everything!
09. Wearing underwear as swimming attire!
10. Using crates to support the bed!
Until next time...

Things men care about

Sports
Doesn’t matter if he’s an active participant or a viewer! Men enjoy sports and it doesn’t have to include a ball or puck! Give’em a rifle and some game to hunt…that’s right, that’s a sport to them as well.

Sex
Not to be stereotypical about my gender, but hell we love sex! It doesn’t matter how you phrase it, “Making Love” “Fucking”…it doesn’t matter! To the credit of my gender not all men enjoy all kinds of sex, for example; Oral...as in giving not receiving!

Hair Loss
Men care about their hair regardless of what they say!! No, George Constanza’s here! If you are losing your hair, please let it go! Don’t do the Taupe’s; the comb over; or the snicker bar wigs!

Sex
To have the pleasure to be with a woman is one of the greatest pleasures a man can have, especially if there are no strings attached! The “friends with benefits” is a concept that has come of age!

Video Games
Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo, it doesn’t matter. The old arcade game at the local store! The poker video game at the bar, we’ll even play that!

Cars
The attraction between men and cars is something special. Personally, I think women are just as bad, if not worse!

Sex
See two and four!

Power
This particular characteristic is something all men want rather they admit it or not! However, power in the wrong hands is not a good thing!

Prestige
Men would love to have prestige, just to be recognized so they can get the power and sex! If a man has status then he can be placed in a position of power!

Money
They call money the root to all evil, but without it you would probably do a lot of things in order to attain some! Unfortunately, most of those things may place us in a bad position!

Women
Hey, all this other stuff would be pointless if we didn’t have women, so we could impress them with our cars, hair, power, or money simply so we could have sex, oops I mean a meaningful and loving relationship!
