Black every day

It's the end of February, which means the end of Black History Month until 2007. For some this month was filled with something new about Blacks that some blacks and/or other races may not have known. For others, it may seem like a tired carousel on the ever revolving race issues highlighted in the Land of the Free! Whatever your education, pessimist or optimist, there's no denying that Blacks are having a more profound effect on everyday life throughout the world and not just in America, nor simply for the month of February. So, as we say good bye to the shortest month on the calendar, take a moment to think about how you'll take notice of other cultures successes, triumphs or civil and humanitarian efforts for the remaining ten months of 2006!

As for me it's back to being black without all of the notoriety that comes with the month of February!

until next time...stay educated

Selfish or Selfless

During these cold Detroit days, I have nothing but sympathy for those that participate and lose in these Winter Olympics! However, on Sunday The American Ice Skating Team stirred a lil controversy among teammates. Chad Hedrick accused Shani Davis of being a selfish teammate for not participating in the team relay event. Instead Shani Davis, choose to bypass the relay to focus on his individual event so he could win gold. Although, when one would initially hear this story the selfish accusations would start to fly direct at Mr. Davis being just that, a selfish person!

However, when taking a closer look at the situation I think I would have made the same decision. First and foremost, Mr. Davis was selected to the Olympics based on his individual performance, not the teammate based relay event! Although his speed would have definitely been a huge help for team America winning a gold, it would have been a hindrance in helping Mr. Davis reach his goals of winning a gold in the event in which, he was eventually named the Gold Medal winner!!

Also, when you look at the individual who brought the controversy to light, Chad Hedrick, who had already won his individual event medals, 4 to be exact, does not have a friendly relationship with Mr. Davis at all! Another one of the people that brought about the selfish controversy was Bob Costas of NBC, whose only competition remains to be Katie Couric, which apparently he’s still losing!! For Mr. Costas to call the actions of a man who valued being the first African American man to win a Gold Medal at the Winter Olympics selfish, then I think Mr. Costas needs to look at the trail that Mr. Davis has just blazed for another aspiring African American Winter Olympian!
until next time...

Told yall I wasn’t dead!

Okay, so you boy is back on! Yeah, I have a new job and hopefully I’ll be dropping some posts on a more frequent basis! It took me two weeks after my last day of work to start another position! Anyway, holla at ya boy and ya boy will holla back!

Super Detroit 4 The Moment

So, by now everyone is tired of hearing about Jerome Bettis and how this would be the perfect ending to his football career! I know I get tired of seeing him on the damn TV! Trust me, I aint hating, but I know there has to be another story line in there somewhere, right!!!?? It just has to be! Jerome “The Bus” Bettis has seemingly done every thing right or politically correct in his career so there’s no hating on him at all. Much props to one of the players in the Big Game that’s representing Detroit.

Detroit has been transformed into a place that I can barely recognize! I guess much like Jacksonville was changed over last year for the Big Game! There are parties all over town and out of town! Usher is having a party and charging $300 to get in! WTF! Is this his way of saying all unimportant people stay the fuck out! Not that I would pay that much to attend any party, unless Tupac finally came back and he gave me a discount!

So, if you look at ESPN and hear all the wonderful things that are being said about my hometown, you would have to question yourself about all the sudden love! I guess the Disney and NFL folks have their marketing teams on over drive! However, just wait until everything goes back to normal! I looked out of my office window (ex-office) and could see TV crews from everywhere! Traffic was a nightmare, so I can only imagine how out-of-towners felt! So, just wait until all the bright lights and camera’s are off and see what your local writer has to say about ABC/Disney’s/ NFL’s favorite city of the week!

As for myself, I’ll still be here writing about the typical bullshyt, good and bad that goes on in the real Detroit!
