NBOBA INC Event

Okay, I attended this event last Friday on Nov. 18th! It was held at Wayne State University and sponsored by National Black Operational Business Association!

The keynote speaker of the event was Afeni Shakur (Tupac's Mom)!

Anyhow, I thought the event was pretty good overall. Each speaker addressed a different issue, mostly pertaining to the youth, particularly black youth.

Here is a list of the speakers and a title of what they were to discuss:

  1. Judge Debbie Thomas - Black Youth and the Law

  2. Brother Samsadeen - Fortifying The Spiritual & Moral Fiber of Black Youth

  3. Judge Wade McCree - Racial Disparities @ 36th District Court

  4. Dennis Thompson - Effects of The Willie Lynch Doctrine

  5. Mohammed Luwemba - ORR

  6. Afeni Shakur - General

The speakers for the most part were well informed on the subjects that that spoke, which only seemed reasonable!! The evening was filled with emotional and interesting moments! Judge Wade McCree gave the best presentation of the evening. His ability to hold the attention of the audience with his content and delivery was extremely effective. While emotions were sent extremely high by the founder of the NBOBA, Afeni Shakur managed to bring everything into perspective. Ms. Shakur, formerly a Black Panther pretty much delivered a message of peace, and she instructed us that her passion was the uplifting of the youth! She also stated that despite some of the things that we may have heard through the course of the evening, her message was once of peace and love! She stated that blacks did not have to die for the cause, but instead live for the cause in order to be more effective. The Civil Rights Movement had tried the Non-Violent approach. The Black Panthers had focused on the militant and more aggressive approach. Regardless to which method that was tried the results were startling the same in some instances; our leaders of those movements were killed. Her message went against the saying "If you can't find something to live for, then find something to die for,” she stated that as a people we have done enough dying and it was time for us to live for a cause. It was time that the youth aspired to those political positions. It was time that we strived to get those corporate positions. In these ways we could be just as effective as the other movements!

Overall the event was pretty informative and it even had some heart felt moments.

Until next time...
